- It's not unusual (actually, it was once the standard) for modems to be shipped
- configured to assert CD permanemently and to ignore DTR. This configuration
- can be changed either through switches or commands, usually AT&C1&D2 (write it
- to NVRAM using AT&W to make it powerup default).
